Nether portals in Delta not working properly

So I have been travelling for a while in Delta, ending up at -22.2k blocks out from spawn when I found a place where I'd like to build my base. I then made a nether portal there to be able to have an easier access back to spawn. Only thing is, when I went onto the nether roof and made a portal at the same coords as the other portal in the nether, I got transported 7k blocks away from where I originally started in the overworld, at -15k blocks more or less exactly.

Do I have to make a base within the 15k block limit that seems to be in place for nether portals to be able to link them, or is it possible to have the limit extended?

Turns out we forgot to set a world border for Delta. We've set it at ±15,000, so this issue won't be relevant anymore.
