Do you want to know how online multiplayer gaming was like before 'the Internet' was a thing for common folk?
Check the video below about Trade Wars 2002. One of the most popular BBS games of the late 80's and early 90's.
Install the SyncTERM client (available for Win, Mac, Linux) and connect to bbs.lunduke.com on port 23 (Telnet).
Note 1 : Back in those days, each player slot on the server required a separate modem connected to it's own phone line / number.
Therefore the amount of turns and time is limited (usually around 200 turns / 2 hours max per day). If you stay on longer or if you AFK for too long, you will be kicked off 'to free the phone line' for someone else. Once you get the hang of it, you will usually run out of turns in 30 minutes or so.
Note 2 : Back then BBS owners would require real personal info before letting you in.
In 2020, sharing those details is a really bad idea so don't do that. Just fill some random characters and it will let you in anyway.
