Badges on Minr

Hi all, this is just a fun little concept suggestion I would love everyone's thoughts on. No idea how feasible this would be to actually implement.

Problem: Currently, the main things to grind out on Minr are completely unrealistic and unobtainable for the majority of the player base. 100% FFA points, Challenge points leaderboard, and Speedrun score leaderboard are all not very feasible, and currently the only recognition players get for making progress on these projects is chat messages.

Cosmetics don't satisfy this problem, because you can't see what accomplishments a player has unless you are directly looking at them in-game while they are online, with the specific cosmetic they want to show off. Even then, players will probably not know what daunting task they are trying to show off. This makes cosmetics unmotivating to grind for, and almost purely, well, cosmetic.

I believe that there should be more obtainable goals to grind for on Minr, with rewards that recognize your achievements regardless if you are online.

Solution: Introducing Badges!
Badges would be a single-line addition to /whois (ign) that recognizes the player for their achievements on the server. You can hover over each badge to see what unlocks that badge.

Below is an example of a theoretical player with a completely unrealistic number of badges:
Nobody would actually have this many badges. Typically 2-3, maybeee 5 if you're the goat.

Badges could also send chat messages, and show when hovering over a players name maybe:

Here are some ideas for badges on the easier side of the spectrum:

* Beat every Primary Maze
* Beat every Primary Puzzle
* Beat every Pure Parkour
* Create a map in FFA

And here are some fun ideas that are much much harder:

* Beat every Primary Parkour
* Be #1 in speedrun score
* Beat every soul link challenge
* Beat 10 maps in Summit
* Reach the end of a Beep Test
* Find every artifact
* Find agatha

We could also have badges that could upgrade in color, for example:
* Reach 10% - 25% - 50% - 75% - 100% FFA points
* Reach 10% - 25% - 50% - 75% - 100% Challenge points
* Reach 1,000 - 3,000 - 10,000 - Top 10 - Top 1 Speedrun Points
* Make 1 - 3 - 5 - 10 - 25 Maps in FFA

These are just off the top of my head, but I could totally see players enjoying having something to grind for other than 100% FFA points.

Too many badges would definitely just add noise, so they should be for an exclusive set of milestones, with a handful of insanely unreachable ones for fun. They could also probably show up in /cosmetics. Maybe we could also have /badges with a display menu. Again, no idea how hard any of this would be to implement. This is just a concept I think would be fun. Curious what everyone thinks, and if you have badge ideas of your own, post them below.

Yooooooo. This is a fire idea ngl. Have to think about what u want for the total number of badges. And what is something you need or nah.

Like #1 srs or ecxample makes sense in some sense. but if the goal is to add accessible smaller achievements it makes no sense ofcourse.

ill be checking ur badges tmrw when its added :)

If the reason for these is to be more accessible than the achievements that you listed, I think the unreachable ones are a bad idea. If it were up to me, I would keep most of your list, BUT make these changes to make them reachable, but worthy of recognition:
Reach black in beep test instead of finishing
Beat 3 summit maps instead of 10
At any point since implementation of these badges, have held x rank in or x amount of speedrun score (I like your list of values)

Idk that's my two cents. Maybe four adjusting for inflation

Edit to add I think this a terrific idea overall btw

i agree that more displayable rewards for achievements would be cool. that being said, i think this implementation of badges might still result in them being too hidden away and being forgotten/not noticed by people, especially the newer players on the server who may strive to go for these badges.

my suggestion would be that the "badges" idea would be fleshed out more and instead turned into more of an achievements system where you could have "badges" of different tiers (maybe displayed in another menu like the /badges you mentioned), and the main selling point would be the total amount of badges a person has, which could then be displayed more clearly somewhere. of course minr has historically not liked any sorts of prefixes, but maybe hovering over a person's name could just show this number rather than each badge individually. it wouldnt just be a simple number but something more fancy looking of course, but i think this would be a more interesting goal to work towards than simply a longer list of badges. i fear that if badges were implemented in the original way, the amount of sources would have to be really limited to avoid oversaturating the system, and it would limit how fun the system could be.

i think we can afford to have chat messages about beating every pure pk/maze/etc. without it creating any sort of clutter. i would like if those were added regardless of the whole badges idea.

tl;dr i think the main displayed statistic being the total number of badges, or perhaps points gotten from badges if harder ones gave more points (e.g. making 3 maps giving more points than making 1 map), would be more interesting for especially newer players and improve how the system is received. i think this would also increase the amount of badges that could be created (and increase the potential difficulty of obtaining the hardest ones), as well as reducing fomo from not being able to obtain a specific cool badge. but lmk if you disagree and want to block me on all platforms

I like the tiered badges format so that the original intent of making it accessible to more people is there while there's also incentives for harder (higher tier) ones. In terms of display though, I think it would be cooler if players could just maybe pick their 3 favorite badges to display instead of having to display all, while having a separate option to let other people display their full list of badges somewhere (or like display 3 picked, show total count of badges as clickable text that will further display all their badges).

Cool idea but I can see how limited it could be and also I am not a big fan of how that looks currently imo lol. I sure do hope it doesn't get considered as prefixes as well

I should have included that the reason I included some "unreachable" badges was that we absolutely don't want any 100%ers to feel obligated to get every badge. Someone shouldn't reach 100% ffa points and feel like they haven't actually 100% everything, thats why I proposed badges like, be #1 in speedrun score. That way it's basically impossible, and nobody should feel obligated to get as many badges as possible. But of course im just throwing this out here without really thinking about it haha.

Thanks for all the opinions guys!

Maybe have badges display under or above your title? And you pick a max of three to equip or something.
