The title speaks for itself. All you need to do is drop the item(s) you would like to preserve and click a reset puzzle sign. The item stays while the puzzle resets. This makes almost all puzzles pointless, and I hope it gets "patched" soon.

Items don't actually do anything other than give you a visual. You don't gain anything from doing this.
