Suspending soullinks

Issue has been brought up before, although not soullinks specifically here

from what I've tried, soullinks are not suspendable, but if they somehow are then I guess I'm dumb and don't bother reading the rest

for clarity, suspending with a mid map cp is not something I'm bringing up here, just the regular start cp suspend stuff except applicable to soullinks

The main issue with soullinks is scheduling. In solo challenges, you aren't limited by another person's presence on the server, but in soullinks if one person isn't online it becomes very hard to progress.

highlighting pkbd because it's the longest sl on the server I think

Given the length of pkbd, a lot of people (myself included) are hesitant to start this challenge because we don't wish to be locked out of playing other maps/building our own maps. There are a few people with 9+ hours a day, similar timezones, and high skill levels that allow them to complete the challenge fairly quickly, so not being able to suspend wouldn't be too large of an issue for them, but for the rest of us, being able to suspend multi map soullinks (especially pkbd) would be an awesome feature.

Johnplumber brought it to my attention that suspending challenges doesn’t invalidate completion time so this has been edited out

In the forum post linked above, it was mentioned that "map suspension" was something likely to be done in the future, and it's been 1.5+ years since the original post so I'm wondering if any progress was made, or if it's still something likely to be done in the future (if so I hope someone brings it up again Christmas 2027)

If this is something greenies are able to help with at all, there are a lot of talented scripters/programmers in the greenie community that I'm sure are willing to help (myself included but I'm not talented just a regular programmer)

Thank you admins!

Suspending soul links is just in general pretty complicated to support. It need to handle parties being disbanded and reformed, potentially with different players. There also needs to be a way to abandon suspended challenges without unsuspending, because otherwise it can be impossible for you to escape a suspended soul-link challenge if one of the players goes AWOL / gets banned / etc. It's not impossible, but it wasn't worth the hassle initially. Especially given that multi-session soul-link challenges were pretty much non-existent at the time (the concurrently-released Escort in the Twilight being the only example). These types of challenges have become much more popular now, so it's probably worth revisiting.

Map suspension is my pet project, but it's been a while since I've had the golden time/energy/motivation trifecta to work on it, so it's been on ice. I would like to get back to it someday, but no promises.

Code contributions to the core plugin have historically been limited to mods+ but I don't know the reasoning behind that decision as it was before my time.
