The Purple Comet is back, and with it comes the brand-spanking new set of Purple Coins! Under the comet's corrupting influence, precious Purple Coins have been scattered across the land. Following the annual tradition, a crowd has gathered to compete to see who can collect the most! Speed is essential, especially given the recent scout reports of airships in the area.
This year, Team Prism challenges two-time champions Team Crimson in the race for the coins!
What is the Purple Comet Event?
The Purple Comet event is an annual high octane intense competition between two teams that takes place all over Zero. The teams search maps in attempts to find elusive Purple Coins hidden throughout them. It tests your skill and knowledge of maps, but is still accessible for people of all skill levels.
What are Purple Coins?
Purple Coins are purple heads hidden throughout maps. Your objective is to collect as many of them as possible before time runs out. To collect them, right click them. A message will appear in chat and the coin will disappear. Each Purple Coin is worth one point.
Purple Coins look like this:
Where can Purple Coins be found?
A Purple Coin will be placed in every map. Specifically, they will be placed in all maps in the FFA and FFA+ that have a non-zero point rating (so Ninja Warrior Training Course and Wool Town: Retro are excluded). There will also be a coin hidden in Spawn.
Carnivale will not have any Purple Coins hidden within it. Due to technical restrictions, Frienemy will not have a Purple Coin either.
What about those Green Stars?
Green Stars will return, but they will function differently than last year. Green Stars are special coins hidden in extremely difficult to reach areas. They act like normal Purple Coins, but are worth three points instead of one. Last year, there was a Green Star in every red map. This year, Green Stars can appear in any map. A list of maps containing Green Stars will be revealed just before the event starts.
Green Stars look like this:
Rules
Please follow these rules to ensure optimal fun and smooth operation of the event. Breaking the rules will result in disqualification and may result in a temporary ban.
- All server rules apply. They can be found at https://wiki.minr.org/Server_Rules.
- Don’t use hacks such as freecamming or x-ray. Don’t make us sad
- Once the FFA has been closed for coin hiding, do not enter maps or collect coins until the event starts.
- Do not sabotage your own team or collude with the (obviously inferior) other team.
- Using green-only commands such as /rocket and /call is disallowed.
- Entering maps from the outside is not allowed.
- Time only ends when it is called by the event hosts. It does not end before then.
- Follow all instructions from your lovely event hosts (rmanimal and CreepaShadowz).
Event information and sign-up
The event will take place on the 24th of August. Teams will be assigned starting at 8:00pm UTC, so please be there before then. The event itself lasts three hours and will start once teams are assigned. The team that scores the most points wins. If there is a tie, it will be resolved through an intense sudden death.
You do not need to sign up, but it would be preferable to do so. Reply to this thread to indicate your interest.
Prizes
All members of the winning team that score at least one point will receive the ** prefix for one month.
All members of the losing team that score at least one point will receive the * prefix for one month.
All players who find a Purple Coin will receive an exclusive Purple Coin hat.
Anyone who scores at least 15 points will receive the elusive Green Star hat.
Note only points scored during the main three hours count towards prizes.
FAQ
Can I be on a team with my friends?
It depends. Our main goal is to ensure that the teams are balanced. We will try to accommodate this if possible but if you are a higher-skilled green then this probably won’t be possible.
Can I be an independent?
No. Independence Day is not celebrated on the 24th of August.
There’s a technical glitch and I cannot collect a coin. What do I do?
Send a screenshot (preferably with your debug screen on) to on Discord to CreepaShadowz (Alphaeus#1236) for manual verification. We will do our best to manually track the coins alongside the automated system.
How do I see what coins have and haven’t be collected?
Last year we used a lamp and sign system at the event hub to do this. However, this was problematic and difficult to execute. This year we will be updating a public spreadsheet online that will display what coins have been found and who found them.
We hope to see you all there. Good luck, and happy hunting!
