It'd say it doesn't matter very much - there's a constant battle between all 3 teams, but I can say Valor are the most persistent and has a lot of people who are willing to walk around at 3:00AM to capture a gym.

It's mainly just preference, but personally I picked Valor because all of my friends did too, so we can capture gyms together.

As a Sega fanboy instead of a Nintendo one, I didn't grow up with the pokemon games, so I've not been drawn to this as much as others seem to have been (especially one of my friends from University, who was instantly addicted to it). Might change my mind once Niantic pull their heads together and correct for their initial miscalculations.
